6 Essential Inner Changes That Lead to the Outer Life You Want

There’s very little you can control in the world. Other people, the stock market, the weather, or the price of tea in China are all beyond your influence. Fortunately, you can control yourself—and that’s all you really need. By changing your inner world, you can bring about the external changes you want to see in your life.

It might be hard to believe that adjusting your thoughts or attitude could make you healthier, wealthier, or wiser. But shifting your inner perspective can have powerful effects on every part of your life.

Transform your life by making these inner changes:

1. Your Perspective on Failure

Do you see failure as something embarrassing? Or as something to avoid at any cost? Imagine if you viewed failure as just a step towards success. It simply shows that one approach didn’t work and offers a chance to adjust and. try again. How can you fail in the long term when you keep learning and improving? (This was a rhetorical question. You can’t.) The way you view failure greatly impacts your chances of success. What beliefs about failure would best serve you?

2. Your Core Values

Values and rules, inner changes for personal growth

Think about this: if someone values charity, kindness, and modesty, their life will look very different from someone who values freedom, adventure, and courage. And both will live quite differently from someone who values wealth, power, and control. What are your own values? Do they support the life you want? Is your life aligned with what you truly value? If you need some help with this, we have a FREE DOWNLOADABLE resource for you here "VALUES WORKBOOK: VALUES & RULES - LIVE A LIFE TRUE TO YOUR CORE" to find out your values, rank them and guide you to live by the ones that make life better for you.

3. Your Beliefs

Beliefs shape how we see the world and make decisions. If you believe that money is the root of all evil, it’s unlikely you’ll succeed in gaining wealth. If you believe you’re “just not good with people,” you may struggle in your social life. List some of your beliefs about money, yourself, and life in general. Are these beliefs helping or holding you back? Which beliefs would support the life you wish to create?

4. Your Attitude

Do you expect things to work out for you, or are you mainly pessimistic? Negative expectations can stop you from trying new things. A positive attitude can help you stay patient and persistent, especially when things aren’t going well. Consider how your attitude may be affecting the results you’re seeing in life.

5. Practising Gratitude

Reminding yourself of what is already going well can lift your attitude and expectations. It can also ease anxiety and change your perspective. Take a few minutes each morning and evening to think of things you feel grateful for. You may find that you can build a long list!

6. Choosing Your Thoughts

Our thoughts are within our control, though it might not feel that way. But try it: think about an ice cream cone or a green cow. You can choose any thought you like! Taking control of your thoughts is key. If you’re often thinking of negative outcomes, it will be hard to thrive. Keep an eye on your thoughts and try to focus on the positive ones.

Transforming yourself from within is the key to creating the life you want externally. Without inner changes, it’s hard to make lasting behavioural changes. You end up constantly fighting yourself, and willpower alone isn’t sustainable over time. Inner changes can make things easier and reduce the need for willpower.

Instead of battling yourself, make the inner changes that will create the outer life you desire.

Change is a choice. Without choice, there is no change.
